Couperose is a vascular skin condition in which, due to impaired circulation in the capillaries, spider veins or vascular networks (telangiectasias) appear. The external symptoms of couperose usually begin with an unnatural redness of the facial skin in the area of the cheeks and the wings of the nose. Why does this happen? As a result of a number of causes that we will discuss below, the walls of the vessels and capillaries in the upper layers of the skin lose their elasticity, become fragile, and blood stagnates in them. That is how couperose begins!
Causes of couperose:
Couperose on the face, like most cosmetic problems, can have a hereditary basis. However, many other internal or external factors can contribute to its appearance.
- Sudden temperature changes lead to fragile vessels and, consequently, to couperose,
- Smoking disrupts normal circulation, leading to blood stagnation in the capillaries and facial redness,
- Alcohol consumption, especially red wine, leads to the dilation of the vessels,
- Excessive sunbathing disrupts the skin's natural biological processes and makes the vessels fragile,
- Neuroses and stressful situations also have a negative effect on the condition of the vessels. During stress, the natural flow of blood in the vessels is disrupted, blood pressure rises, the vessel walls cannot withstand such fluctuations, and couperose develops.
Treating couperose
Couperose should be approached comprehensively. First of all, you need to determine which causes (internal or external) may have triggered it. It must not be forgotten that fragile vessels can be a symptom of serious illnesses.
Couperose on the face can warn of the following conditions:
- High blood pressure. With elevated arterial pressure (above 120/80 mm Hg), a vascular network may form on the face. In this case, it is worth seeing a general practitioner or a cardiologist.
- If couperose appears during and after a cold, a consultation with an ENT specialist is necessary, as it may be a sign of sinusitis.
- Certain gynaecological conditions, such as gonadal dysfunction, can also provoke couperose.
- Symptoms of couperose also appear with hormonal disorders in the body.
After consulting with specialists, you should choose appropriate skin care. Such care should take the fragility of the vessels into account.
Contraindications:
- Procedures and cosmetics that stimulate blood circulation.
- Using drying and alcohol-containing ingredients in your care.
- Washing the face with water of contrasting temperatures.
- Vacuum and manual massage, chemical peels and aggressive facial cleansing.
Proper daily care should include:
- Gentle cleansing of the skin, preferably with soap-free facial washes designed for sensitive skin.
- Anti-couperose cosmetics, for example Fitogel 911 anti-couperose, which effectively acts on the vessels, strengthens them and eliminates spider veins.
- A sun protection product, which should be applied daily to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.
In addition to special skin care, you should follow a proper diet and eat foods containing vitamins C, K and P, which help strengthen the vessel walls and reduce their permeability.
