A PLANT-DERIVED SKIN-WHITENING SUBSTANCE

Arbutin belongs to the group of glycosides, and is a compound belonging to the category of simple ethers. Most often it is obtained precisely from bearberry, after which vitamins, acids and a number of moisturising substances are added to the mixture in order to create a whitening serum or creams for pigmentation spots.

Previously, hydroquinone was added to this type of serum or creams, but not so long ago it was deemed toxic and banned from use in most countries of the world!

The whitening mechanism of this ingredient is in many respects similar to the whitening mechanism of hydroquinone, that is, the element in the composition of the serum or cream acts on dark spots and freckles, lightening them. But the main principle of whitening lies in reducing the production of melanin, which is responsible for the colour of hair and skin, by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for its synthesis.

The popularity of arbutin and the serums or creams based on it stems from its plant origin, which many people consider an important argument when choosing, especially in comparison with aggressive chemicals.

Specialists assure that, in addition to whitening, this ingredient can:

  • protect against ultraviolet radiation,
  • boost the body's immunity,
  • act as a pain reliever.

To achieve a result, a serum or cream with arbutin should be used for at least several weeks, taking into account its gentle action compared with chemical counterparts.
