During the cold seasons, people experience many health problems. Dry skin in winter is one of the conditions that can affect both women and men. How do you get rid of dry facial skin during winter? What affects changes in the skin's condition? It is worth taking a closer look at this problem.
Causes of Dry Facial Skin During the Winter Period
The effect of cold influences the condition of human skin in various ways. The skin has a complex structure. The upper lipid layer serves as protection for deeper tissues and cells against the influence of external factors. Due to low temperatures, it is destroyed, and the skin becomes thinner.
According to dermatologists, dry facial and body skin in winter is affected by various factors:
- Sudden changes in air temperature. Dry, frosty weather is especially harmful to facial skin. Moisture is “frozen out” of it, and in strong winds it is “blown away”, and then it becomes sensitive and defenceless;
- Wearing synthetic clothing, which provides poor warmth and creates additional discomfort, preventing the skin from breathing normally;
- The operation of heating devices, which dry out the air indoors;
- Limited intake of vitamins and foods beneficial to the skin, overindulgence in unhealthy food.
When looking for an answer to the question of why the skin became dry during the winter period, you should analyse your lifestyle and the condition of the environment in which you spend your time.
How to Get Rid of Dry Skin in Winter
- If dry skin in winter spoils your appearance and becomes a cause of depression, you should listen to the advice of dermatologists and use cosmetic, medical and home methods for the rehabilitation and protection of the epithelium during the cold seasons.
- Wardrobe analysis. To avoid drying out the skin, you should stock up on natural cotton or linen underwear. Among the warm items in the wardrobe there should be woolen sweaters, pullovers and cardigans that are comfortable to wear and care for. The same applies to trousers, tights and socks. Wearing a hat will prevent dry skin in winter.
- Nutrition analysis. By overindulging in unhealthy food, many people do not understand why their skin is dry, and in no way associate their diet with the condition of the epithelium. In winter, you should pay special attention to what is on the table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During this time, the outer coverings need special nourishment. It must be saturated with vitamins, nutrients and a sufficient amount of fluids.
- Review of cosmetics. Dry skin in winter needs vitamins A, E, K, D and minerals, which it can obtain from creams, masks and oils. For moisturising mixtures to work effectively, they are applied 40–50 minutes before going outside. Particular attention should be paid to colour cosmetics. Under a thick layer of foundation, the skin finds it hard to breathe. It experiences double stress from the cold and the impermeable “shell”, and its condition significantly worsens.
- Microclimate. Radiators working in winter take part of the moisture out of the air. To normalise the microclimate indoors, it is necessary to additionally humidify it using special devices or simply by spraying water with a spray bottle.
- Hygiene. Hot showers and baths are the enemies of the winter epithelial coverings. Water treatments in the cold season are taken less often than in summer. This does not apply to the bathhouse or sauna. A steam room, on the contrary, will improve blood flow and cell regeneration. The condition of the epithelium will only improve from such treatments. The additional application of a cosmetic oil made from natural plant ingredients will create a protective layer, provide nourishment and prevent dry skin in winter.
To keep your face and body in good condition and somehow avoid dry skin in winter, it is important to follow the advice of dermatologists and take double care of yourself.
